This year our December Concert theme was The Lion King. K1 got to play the wrinkly elephants and sing the song "Elephants Have Wrinkles"! We did such a good job of singing and dancing and were super listeners and audience members in the rehearsals and performances. We hope you enjoyed the show! Before this past week Ms. Alison was away for a long time because she was sick. That didn't mean we didn't get to communicate though! The mailbox became a great way for us to keep in touch! What a great way to practice writing as a form of communication! Here are some examples of the letters and drawings that were sent back and forth: Did you know that ISS has a sister school in China called BISS? They are located in Beijing. Recently one of their Kindergarten classes invited us to participate in a fun project they were working on as part of their unit of inquiry in Mandarin. They took photos of Flat Stanleys in places around their school and asked us some questions: What can you see in the picture? Where is this place? What can we do there? Who is the person in the picture? What is his or her job? First we wanted to say hello to our friends using our Mandarin knowledge. Click 'Play Fotobabble' to hear us: Next we viewed our friends' photos in a slideshow and recorded our voices over them using an app 'Shadow Puppet'. We hope our answers will help our friends with their inquiry about schools. We certainly had fun viewing their photos and thinking about another ISS school in China! Daniel was our most recent Star Name. When we started to study his letters, we quickly realized that all of us shared letters with Daniel in our own names...even Ms. Alison and Mrs. Mano! We used our Word Study notebooks to record the letters we have in common. Daniel gave a great interview and taught us lots about his favourite places in Singapore using accurate names, like Bugis and Plaza Singapura. Well done Daniel! As part of our fundraising efforts for the Philippines, Kindergarten 1 took place in a silent art auction.
We took inspiration from our December Concert song 'Elephants Have Wrinkles' and created some beautiful elephant art pieces which are now on display and up for auction outside of the K1KB classroom. After our discussion about what is happening in the Philippines right now, we were so excited to take action in our own way to help out. We hope you enjoy our art! Please stop by by 3 PM on Tuesday, December 3 to make your bid! |
