Our year has come to an end and it's time to say goodbye. We had so much fun exploring, wondering and discovering all year long and made some great friends along the way. A special goodbye goes to our friends Aziz and Cameron who will be moving to new countries and leaving ISS. We spent some time in our last Afternoon Meeting sharing what we love most about Aziz and Cameron and what we'll miss. Good luck in your new adventures Aziz and Cam! We'll miss you very much!! Happy summer holidays to everyone. Play lots and have fun! See you back at ISS in August! :) |

Kindergarten 1 loved the teachers' Happy video so much that they wanted to make their own. Here it is in dedication to all of our teachers this year, and especially Ms. Alden and Ms. Jan who will be leaving ISS this year. We hope you enjoy it! :)
After our visit to the Big Eyes, Big Minds Singapore International Children's Film Festival, we because very interested in films! We talked a lot about our experiences back at school and had some questions:
First, we created plans for our films by drawing our ideas in small groups. Then we created scenes for our films with different objects in the classroom. When these were ready it was time to get the iPads. We took photographs on the app 'Smoovie' which turned them into stop motion animation films! When we replayed our films though we noticed that something was missing...sound! So we composed our own music in the app 'Garage Band' to match the feelings we wanted our films to have. When the films and sounds were all done, Ms. Alison helped us put it all together on her laptop using iMovie. We chose our own backgrounds, colours and fonts to complete the title and credits screens. When we watched our films, we were so excited about them that we said we wanted to have our own film festival. So Ms. Alison asked us a question: What do we need for a film festival? We independently collected all of our ideas in drawings. One of the things we said that we needed for a film festival were invitations. So we wrote invitations for all of the people we wanted to invite: Finally it was time for the film festival! The first show was for our mums and dads. We also did shows for K1KB, our Grade 3SS buddies, and Ms. Alden and Ms. Jan. Here are our films! We hope you like them! As the end of K1 gets closer, we've been getting more and more curious about what's going to happen next year. Today we had the chance to visit K2HH and ask them some questions about what we can expect in Kindergarten 2:
For the last two weeks, our Star Name has been PIGS! This name helped us to consider two letters we find challenging: P & G. Obviously we don't have any pigs in our class though, so how were we going to do the Star Name interview? Right away we made the connection to the story of The Three Little Pigs, which some of us have been exploring and retelling during our free time. We decided to write a letter to the little pigs, inviting them to come to our classroom. We put the letter in our class mailbox and waited. And waited.... Finally we got a reply! One of the three little pigs would be coming to visit us! In our excitement, we started to discuss what it would look like to have a little pig visit our classroom. Some children thought it would be impossible for a pig to leave the farm, but others thought that if the farmer drove the pig he could get to ISS. Some of us said that we didn't want a pig in our classroom because it would be too dirty. We decided to document our thinking using a compass points chart with a space for our Needs, what we're Excited about, what we're Worried about, and what we Suggest: Finally it was the day of the pigs visit! We could hardly contain our excitement! We asked the pig our prepared interview questions and he told us all about his experiences with building houses and the big bad wolf! Very quickly we started to notice something a little bit funny about this pig. It didn't look like what we had expected. It had people hands and people shoes! And only a mask, not a real pig face. But who was the pig? Watch the video to see if you can figure it out! A little gift from the teachers to the students in celebration of the end of the school year to answer one of K1's most important questions...What do all the teachers do after we go home? ;) |
