Aziz has worked hard at learning how to form numbers all year long. He often practices during them during his free playtime using the whiteboards and whiteboard markers to show what he can do. Aziz's favourite part of our 'How We Express Ourselves' unit of inquiry was retelling Where the Wild Things Are through drama. He chose to include this piece in his portfolio because: "I was king and the wild rumpus was fun. I did a good job of being Max." Ms. Alison agrees that this is an example of Aziz's best work. He supported his group by remembering details from the story which needed to be included in their retell. When he was practicing the dramatic retell, he showed that he understood the feelings of the main character Max, when he explained that he had to act lonely to show how Max was feeling on the Wild Things' island. This week we measured our heights for the very last time in K1. We noticed that once again, we had all grown taller! We reflected individually and as a whole class on the changes that had happened. We also made comparisons between each other's heights using math vocabulary, like taller and shorter. Here is Aziz's explanation of how and why he grew. During our class discussion, he said:
