As a class, we read stories about the numbers one through 10. Through the stories we learned about symbols that represent the numbers and how to form the numbers. Wilma loved these stories and wanted the review work to be included in her portfolio. She selected this piece because: "It's very fun because it was a story and then we needed to colour it."
For the last week, Wilma has had the book Pinkalicious borrowed from the school library. She shared it in our Morning Meeting today and explained that her dad had read it to her many times during the week. Lots of us knew the book already, but some of us didn't, so Wilma offered to read it to us! She used the knowledge she had collected from reading the book with her dad to pretend and memorized read to her friends.
Wilma said: "I like Pinkalicious because it's very funny and I liked when everyone looked at my book."
Wilma has been working on consolidating her knowledge of numbers between 0 and 10. She is practicing identifying numbers before or after a given number. Here she is playing 'What's Missing?' with Violett. The girls are using the 0 to 10 Number Line to figure out what number their partner removed from the card number line and also using the clue of what numbers come before and after that number.
Every week we work on sorting different words in our word study journals. Wilma clapped the syllables she heard in the words on the picture cards and sorted them into one, two, or three syllable groups:
