This semester, Olivia has shown her creativity with construction activities at the light table. She is an imaginative thinker who takes risks when creating pieces. Here is an example:
As a class we read a story about the number 6. We learned how honeycombs are symbols for six because they are shapes with six different sides. Olivia loved this story and wanted her follow-up work to be in her portfolio because: "My mum loves the number six and it makes her happy. I made the shape nicely."
Every week we work on sorting different words in our word study journals. One of Olivia's favourite activities was when we explored the number of syllables (or word chunks) in words from The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Olivia clapped the syllables she heard in the words on the picture cards and sorted them into one or two syllable groups:
