Emma made this pattern. She says it is an example of her best work because "I made it all by myself." This work shows Emma's ability to create and extend simple patterns.

During our Dark Days we discovered shadows. When we read the book The Dark by Lemony Snicket, Emma said that what she saw in the book was "just like Peter Pan's shadow"!
Emma thinks this is her best work from this unit because "Peter Pan has a shadow and I know that and I said it." Ms. Alison agrees that this was Emma's strongest contribution to our unit, because she encouraged us to watch a video about Peter Pan which got us thinking about what is true and not true about shadows and also introduced reflections. Click here to see our work on Peter Pan. This is a watercolour portrait of Emma and her family. Ms. Alison typed on her computer what Emma said about her painting. Both Emma's words and her artwork are now hanging in our classroom.
Ms. Alison chose this piece for Emma's portfolio because it is an example of how she practiced communicating the things that are important to her about herself and her family over the course of our unit. This week Violett has been sick. Emma started writing a letter to Violett and then organized the students in her class to write their own names on the letter. She brought the letter to Violett's sister in Grade 1YT to take home for Violett.
Ms. Alison think this shows that Emma is caring because she is thinking about a friend's position and feelings. She is imagining what Violett is feeling like at home sick. She took time out of her own play and activities to show someone that she cares and to make them feel happy. Emma thinks she was caring when she wrote this letter because: "I made a letter for Violett and I did it for her and she was sick and she was my best friend and it will let us to play with Violett." Emma tells us all about how she has learnt to throw! Near the end of our first unit of inquiry 'Who We Are', we had a chance to "show what we know". We used the 'Draw & Tell app' on our iPads to show the important people in our lives and explain how they have influenced us. Here is Emma's reflection: Emma chose this piece for her portfolio because: "I like what I put on it."
In a celebration of the International Day of Peace on September 21, Kindergarten 1 shared their ideas of what peace is with the whole school through a song and a video in the assemblies. Emma thinks peace is . . . when somebody gives a hug and then somebody says "it's okay" and then somebody says "sorry" and then you say "it's okay"
