Recently we have been doing a lot of playing with shapes. We have been studying their form and observing how they appear in different ways in the world around us. Aziz can confidently name the common shapes: circle, triangle, square and rectangle. His favourite work with shapes was when he used the shape stencils to trace and then colour in different shapes. He chose this piece for his portfolio because: "I made one house with a square and a triangle. I liked colouring the shapes." This work shows how Cameron is able to manipulate shapes to make new designs and images -- like a house!
One day, Cameron brought it some work to show at our Morning Meeting that he had made at home. It was a paper filled with beautiful coloured shapes. As soon as he showed his work, his friends started to name the shapes they knew in his work.
Cameron's inspiring piece became the introduction for a study of shapes in our class. We started by making a big list of all the shapes we knew. Since then we have been exploring in many different ways. Thank you Cameron for the great idea!
