This week has been really, really rainy so we've been focusing on reading some rain stories and poems in class including Rain, Rain Go Away, Rain on the Green Grass, and Franklin and the Thunderstorm. Aziz practiced his memorized reading and one-to-one correspondence by repeating the poem Rain, Rain Go Away, pointing to the words as he said them with his finger. He also exercised his creativity, practicing some 'text innovation' and changing the name of the person in the story and trying to add an extra line. When he visited the library he found a book with a cover illustration that he immediately connected to our rain text work in class. He showed the book to Mrs. Grant, recited the poem to her and asked to borrow the book for our classroom. In this way, Aziz thoughtfully considered his own experiences and ideas (reflective) and extended his learning, also influencing the course of learning and understanding for his classmates (action). |
